Enrolment Procedures Enrolments are taken at the school office. Where possible, the principal will meet with all new enrolments. Please call at the school office to book an appointment. This should take about 30 minutes and includes a tour of the school. Emergency Information The telephone numbers listed on the enrolment form offer the school immediate contact with the parents or their agents in the case of student illness or accident. Parents are asked to advise the school immediately of any changes in their own or contact’s address or telephone number. These forms are updated regularly. Court Orders / Restraining Orders It is important that parents holding Court Orders or Restraining Orders forward a photocopy of these documents to the school. If this is not done the principal or teachers have no legal right to refuse either parent taking the child from the school. School Reports can be mailed to the non-custodial parent. Please notify the teacher or office of the relevant address. Visitors to the School In order to provide a safe environment at the school, all visitors, including parents are requested to call at the front office to sign in the visitor’s book and receive a visitor’s badge. Please sign out and return the badge when you are leaving. Valuables and Money The school and the staff of APS cannot be held responsible for any valuable items children may wish to bring to school. Children are discouraged from bringing valuable items to school. Money should be handed to the class teacher for safekeeping and will be returned at the end of the day. Cell Phones and MP3 Players Students who bring cell phones or MP3 players to school are expected to hand these into the Office for safe keeping. Students are not permitted to use cell phones during school hours. If parents wish to contact their child, they can do so through the school office on 388 8306 or text their child’s phone and the message can be received after they have picked up the phone at the end of the day. Stationery Stationery can be purchased from the school throughout the year. Class teachers have copies of stationery lists and will inform you if your child requires additional books etc. Lost Property Please name all of your child’s belongings as this reduces the number of items of lost property. If you are missing any items, check at the school office. Safety in the Sun - 'Sun Smart' The school has a 'Sun Smart' program to help to protect the children from skin cancer caused by ultra violet rays. During Terms 1 and 4 children must wear a broad brimmed hat when outside the school buildings. Children who do not wear a hat will be confined to a shaded area. 'No hat, No play'. Children are encouraged to wear sun block in the summer months. Newsletters Newsletters will let you know of future events, important happenings, and will also list children who will be receiving an award at the next assembly. These are sent home fortnightly. Classroom teachers will send home a newsletter at least once a term. Bikes Bike stands are located beside the caretaker’s shed. Children who bring a bike to school need to lock it. Cycle helmets must be worn. Pupils under the age of eight are not allowed to ride their bikes to school. The Board of Trustees do not consider children who are this age to be able to cope with our busy roads. Lunches Parents/Caregivers are asked to provide a healthy lunch for their child each day. Sandwiches and fruit are great as they give children the energy they need to get through the day. We no longer run a Tuckshop. - Please note that sweets and fizzy drinks are not allowed.
